SECTION OVERVIEW

Open Gate Keeper Solution

OpenGKS — the Open Gate Keeper Solution — was our first product, integrating RFID devices with real-time notifications through text messaging. It allows parents to track in real time their child’s entrance and exit within the school premises.

It began as a pet project for Keen Learning Center in 2013, and became the foundation for the school work that followed.

FEATURES

What it does

RFID

RFID integrated

Each student carries an RFID card. A tap at the gate is the whole interaction — nothing to log in to, nothing to remember.

SMS

SMS notification feature

The alert reaches the parent as a text message, so it works on any handset without an app or a data connection.

MAIL

Email notification feature

The same event delivered by email, for parents and for the school’s own records.

HOW IT WORKS

Three steps, in real time

01

Tap at the gate

The card is presented on entry and on exit. The reader records the event against the student and the timestamp.

02

Matched against the roster

The read is reconciled with the campus roster, so the event is attached to a named student rather than a card number.

03

Parent notified in real time

An SMS — and an email where configured — goes out as it happens, not at the end of the day.

THE CARD

Supporting safer and smarter schools

The student card carries the RFID chip that drives the whole system.

WHERE IT LED

The first product

OpenGKS established the pattern we still use: a physical reader at the edge, an event reconciled against a roster, and a notification that reaches a parent in seconds. Textity became the messaging layer beneath it, and the same school relationships carried through.
